How to award academic degrees in Ukraine (Policy Paper)

State-awarded degrees of Docent, Senior Researcher and Professor play an important role in the career of Ukrainian academic staff. Since 2016, new harsh requirements for the acquisition of these degrees have been introduced. These requirements include international publications, English-language certificate, and internship outside Ukraine. The publication examines the key problems of new requirements, and shows a range of possible steps of changing the system of academic degrees so as to address these problems. A complex of measures of reforming the academic degrees which aims at bringing the degrees system closer to best international practices and at a deregulation of this sphere is considered.
